transition

Posted in austin, life de luna, pedagogy by luna

After seven years of teaching and completing a Master’s degree in Education, I have come to perhaps the most difficult, confusing and painful experience of this short teaching career.

I found myself in a situation that was far from healthy for me and, with the help and support of friends and family, made a very difficult decision. I have resigned from my teaching position.

I continue to love teaching and learning very much and hope this experience doesn’t take that away from me in any way.

dream delay

it’s a beautiful day. not sure the arc completely bends toward justice with an obama win. but it is a slight bend.

and a slight bend toward justice is an improvement from the sick bend towards hell that took place over the last years. a simple end to a nightmare.

so, i’m grateful. for those who hope. and for those who worked their asses off. to make good dreams come true.

tonight, lina and i will relax and enjoy david.

musica

the music calendar’s getting good for us here in austin. next week, it’s stereolab (one of lina’s favorite bands) on wed and jose gonzalez on saturday.

we were tempted to squeeze in david byrne on thursday but, thankfully, the show sold out!

a couple of weeks and it’s magnetic fields in mid-october followed byOZOMATLI and the show i’m looking forward to the most, TV ON THE RADIO at the end of the month! packed but good.

tonight, it’s the amoda’s digital showcase at club deville. since i’m in austin this year, i’m not missing sxsw-interactive. we enjoyed amoda’s laptop battle at the mohawk last year. this should be fun.

el jale

as a former coordinator (basically, i just opened up the place at 4am) of a day labor site, i got a special laugh out of this one. especially the “gotta speak java” part…

always a friend

i first discovered alejandro via his thirteen years and with these hands albums that i stumbled upon at a used cd shop in minneapolis.

i bought both and was hooked.

when i arrived in houston, i quickly purchased the more miles than money anthology. my grandmother had just passed away and i needed music that sounded as real as possible. written in blood as my good friend nietzsche would say.

although i did miss bruce cockburn at the duck when i first arrived to houston (that chance will never come again again said the owner—one can’t live in regret), i did get to see alejandro live there about five times.

i celebrated my birthday there on the bourbonitis blues tour with my friend sue croak. i had a really cool conversation with the cello player in the dart room after the concert. he wasn’t too crazy about the cold treatment they received in minneapolis from the jayhawks, who seemed to be ignorant of alejandro’s place in music history.

it was always a beautiful acoustic set when they played at the duck.

and now, i’m living in alejandro’s hometown of austin and he’s on his “real animal” tour in where according to some critic he sounds, “…joyously saved, if a little cursed…”

don’t we all.

hope we get there in time.
